Ardee Castle
Ardee Castle is the largest fortified medieval townhouse in Ireland. It was probably built by John St. Ledger during the 15th Century. It served as a stronghold for the defence of the Pale. By 1805 the Castle had been handed over to the Louth Grand Jury. It was then made into a courthouse and prison. Repairs were then done, a new entrance opened on teh west front between the two towers and a bridewell built in the yard at the rear.
