International Festival of Irish Harp

On Sunday 25th June the annual pilgrimage of harpers of all ages arrives at the beautiful setting of An Grianán, Termonfechin for the opening concert of the 32nd An Chúirt Chruitireachta - International Festival of Irish Harp.

This festival celebration of our national instrument, and a highlight of County Louth’s Creative Ireland Programme, brings together internationally renowned professional musicians, amateurs, up and coming Irish harpers and those with a love of the Irish harp and our traditional culture, through a series of lunchtime and evening concerts alongside a residential programme of workshops and masterclasses and Irish Harp tuition.

The festival runs from 25th to 29th June where An Grianán, Termonfechin becomes home to over 60 harpers of all ages from across the globe and our own shores. The festival showcases the very best of the Irish Harp and this year connects our cultural identity with visitors from all over the world including Wales, Northern Ireland and England and as far afield as the USA.

It connects with the traditional culture of county Louth, working in collaboration with the much-loved Drogheda Singers - who feature in the “Pushing Out the Boundaries” concert on 27th June and The Tholsel, Drogheda, as the venue for a series of Lunch-time pop-up concerts, bringing the festival to town during 2017 and featuring ensemble playing by children and young people from the Music Generation programmes in Louth and Laois.

The highlight of this year’s Festival is the extraordinary Festival Concert Series featuring widely-acclaimed harpers and international names in Irish traditional music including; brothers Cormac and Eamon de Barra, Sian James (Wales) and Kathleen Loughnane, alongside the likes of  Jean Kelly and Ranagri whose fusion of traditional and contemporary styles, highlights the versatility of the harp and its place in the modern world.

Whether a keen traditional music concert-goer, a harp lover or just passing through Louth, make sure that you catch at least one of these ‘not to be missed’ concerts. Immerse yourself in the living tradition of Irish harping, where the village of Termonfechin once again comes alive to the sound of our national instrument.

All concerts and workshops are open to the public.  Ensure you don’t miss out on our concerts by booking early on www.eventbrite.ie
