Drogheda Samba Festival
Drogheda Samba Festival, which is in its 18th year, is a three day celebration of Brazilian, Latin and African music and dance.
It includes indoor and open air gigs, workshops and a carnival parade. It has become the annual reunion for Irish samba schools who join samba bands from other countries for a weekend of fun and exploring new ideas and techniques. It is family friendly and most gigs are free.
The highlight of the festival is the carnival parade on the last day in which all the groups at the festival take part and they are joined by local community groups. Salsa has become a popular feature and a late night fringe festival has developed which features music from a wide range of countries with a strong percussion content.
